The film is based on a published story by Cornell Woolrich titled I Married a Dead Man and had been filmed before as No Man of Her Own (1950) starring Barbara Stanwyck. It would be remade by Hollywood again as Mrs. Winterbourne (1996). The film was Shakti's 2nd film with Rajesh Khanna after Aradhana and marked the second of a string of nine movies in which Mr. Samanta and Mr. Khanna collaborated. The movie also features Rajesh Khanna, Nasir Husain, Bindu and Prem Chopra. Kumar also achieved notable success as a lyricist, composer, producer, director, screenwriter and scriptwriter. Kishore Kumar was a prolific vocalist and sang in many Indian languages including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Malayalam and Oriya. He is also widely regarded as the most versatile singer in the history of Indian cinema and a maverick of sorts for lending his voice to songs that did not conform to the norms of the day. In October 1987, he died following a massive heart attack. He had been married four times and is survived by his two sons Amit Kumar, who made his career in playback singing in Bollywood and Bengali films, and Sumit Kumar.
